Blood and Fury A Historical Memoir of the 1919 Pogroms in Ukraine Russia eBook Hannah Weiner Sheba E Sweet David Eisenman
I read Blood and Fury in two swift sittings. The only reason I broke it in two was to allow the heart to rest and take in the enormity of your mother's, z'l experience. Her descriptions of the bold and ruthless brutality, the endless grief, hunger and despair were searing, word by word, page by page. Such an personal account and witnessing of these pogroms, I have yet to have read in all these years (so many of my relatives, z'l were murdered in the Lithuania pogroms, I kept them all in my heart as I read through these mass and massive murders of innocents slaughtered).Reading about the death of your grandmother, z'l, was overwhelming in the face of overwhelming sorrow.
Your mother, OBM, must have been an amazing woman to have carried on ... That your grandfather could survive what he did not just once, but repeatedly, is truly a testimony to the human need to survive and thrive. The mitzvah you have offered the world in publishing your mother's memoir is a blessing to the memory of everyone who perished in those pogroms and to every Jew, everywhere, then, now and forever.

Blood and Fury A Historical Memoir of the 1919 Pogroms in Ukraine Russia eBook Hannah Weiner Sheba E Sweet David Eisenman Reviews
powerful
The best accounts of the horrors of the pogroms are not written by historians. They are written by people who have actually experienced them.
These first-hand accounts obviate matters of literary style and bring us instead face to face with unimaginable horrors.
Such a book is "Blood and Fury". It leaves us shaken as only a direct encounter with truth can.
Weiner and family did a great honor in keeping her grandmother's memories intact. The message of hope that coming to America brings is so uplifting no matter who you are or where you come from.
The book is impressive and I admire the devotion of the two daughters to bring their mother's story to life.It is difficult to keep reading about the horrors which happened in the life of such a young woman. Though she expresses the feelings of an entire group of people, I would've loved to read about interactions between the members of her family, so that we'd learned more about each one's character. However the ending brings the hope of a new life and makes the reading worthwhile. I appreciate and learned from the historical addition.
